#CountryKids at South Lakes Safari Zoo

Country Kids from Coombe Mill Family Farm Holidays Cornwall

After our exertions at Parkrun we headed for the South Lakes Safari Zoo for a value £5 visit. We only go in the winter when its discounted entry as its an expensive visit otherwise. When we go we have our favourite animals but also also enjoy seeing what has changed. This time we started with the giraffes:

Then we wandered past the rhinos and bears before spending ages admiring the baboons:

We spent quite a lot of time around the new big cat enclosures. These all have glass panels so you feel closer to the animals. There are several different beautiful species being bred for conservation purposes including lions:

Our favourite big cats were the jaguars with their new cubs. This little one got a smack from mum for getting too close the humans:

Then we went to the walk through enclosure where the animals and birds all roam at will. The children both had bags of food to give to the permitted animals. Feeding the geese was easy peasy:

The emus were a bit more scary:

My daughter did manage to feed a few direct from the bag:

Both my children were freaked out by the male emu who was taller than them when he stood up:

Whereas the flirting male peacock drew them in:

My son was brave enough to feed these smaller birds:

We had to warm ourselves up with soup in the cafe before finishing our visit. The big aviary was being renovated but we still managed to get pretty close to the macaws:

We always appreciate seeing the lemurs sunbathing on the roof in the enclosure, looks like they are doing yoga:

We didn't manage to see the otter cubs this time so we will have to go back! My children have both adopted an animal (a jaguar and a wolf) so we will be back in the summer for Adopter's Day when they learn more about their adoptee.

This looks like a fab place to spend the afternoon after the morning running. They've got a great range of animals for you all to meet I wouldn't blame your kids being nervous of the emus, I wouldn't want to get too close to them either. Thanks for linking up with Country Kids.
