Kendal Winter League 2020: Event 1 Scout Scar, Kendal

Helm Hill Runners' 2020 Kendal Winter League (sponsored by Different Strokes Painting & Decorating Ltd and Pete Bland Sports ) kicked off on Scout Scar on January 5th. Unlike the last few years conditions were damp and muddy. This didn't seem to reduce the number of runners on the start line. Race 1: the under 13s were the first ones to tackle the Scar with a testing ascent followed by a race to the finish. For many their first ever fell race and for others a chance to settle scores from previous years.

A total of 112 runners aged 8-12 headed up the hill. It was quite a sight:

All emotions we
re on display from determination to tears but plenty of smiles too:

A walk to the Fairy Steps, Cumbria

After 8 years it was time to return to the Fairy Steps. We started our 3 generation walk at Milnthorpe playing field as there was a pay and display car park:

After leaving the town we crossed the deer park at Dallam Tower:

Bubble celebrations #R2BC

I have had a mini break this week as it was so busy at home! It has given me lots of reasons to be cheerful as well as making me late... Thanks again to everyone who linked up last week. For anyone new to the linky we have a few relaxed instructions:

What do you have to do? Easy:

1. Link up a post about something that is making you happy or grateful. It can be a list, photos or any way you fancy

2. Add the #R2BC badge (at the end of this post) onto your post or blog so that people can easily find the linky and join in too if they want to

3. Share the love. This is the really important bit. Please don't just link and run, comment on at least a couple of posts and why not share with #R2BC too?

I'll stop by all linked up posts to comment and I'll share on social media too.

Meanwhile here are my reasons to be cheerful for this week:

1) Father's Day

We are lucky that as I am a single parent we have been able to bubble with my parents and feel more "normal". This meant an afternoon at their house to enjoy Sunday dinner and play games to celebrate Father's Day:

2) Birthday walkies

We were also able to enjoy an 8 mile hike with my mum to celebrate her birthday:

We also had a socially distanced party for two birthday ladies for which I made rainbow cupcakes:

Treats and Sherlock time #R2BC

Anyone else find it hard to keep positive when folks around you are finding things tough? Lockdown isn't easy but finding positive things can lift the spirits. Thank you to everyone who linked up last week. For anyone new to the linky we have a few relaxed instructions:

1) Poppy power

The poppies I grew from wild flower seeds are looking amazing at the moment even in the rain:

2) In the frame

I have moved more of our old photos into frames that have been added to ourogues' gallery on the stairs:

3) "Secret" Passages

I love how Kendal has lots of little pathways and steps that take you off the roads:

Being together and new places #R2BC

Welcome to the feel good linky! Life in lockdown has its up and downs but hopefully we all have some reasons to be cheerful? Thanks for everyone who joined in last week. For anyone new to the linky we have a few relaxed instructions:

Meanwhile here are my reasons to be cheerful for this week:

1) Lots of evening walks

My son and I have fallen into the habit of walking after dinner and before bedtime. He says it is his favourite moment of the day. Kendal is so peaceful at that time of night and its still light as we approach mid summer. This is Stramongate Bridge and Kendal weir:

2) New Places

As well as familiar places we have walked in some new ones. My parents took us on a walk around Skelsmergh and we also went up to Fisher Tarn reservoir:

3) Celebrations

The relaxed rules meant that 6 of us got together to celebrate a couple of June birthdays. My daughter laid out the deck so that each household was socially distanced. We brought up a Chinese from Ruby's and my daughter had baked a birthday cake:

Garden Party #R2BC

It is Thursday so it's time to share the things that have made you happy this week.  I need cheering up this evening so looking forward to your posts. Thanks for everyone who joined in last week. For anyone new to the linky we have a few relaxed instructions:

Meanwhile here are my reasons to be cheerful for this week:

1) Gardener Round

The relaxed rules meant I could have my gardener round. Bonus is that my gardener is my mum and I only pay her in cups of tea, biscuits and ice cream:

I did do some work myself when she had gone and it looks a lot better:

2) A splash of colour

Inspired by the front garden I tackled the back. I even dug out a new to me flower bed on the bit of grass that sloped annoyingly:

3) New Fridge Freezer

My pre-loved fridge freezer, that I have had for 5 years, finally stopped being good enough for use for us. So I bit the bullet and bought a new one for the first time in 20 years:
