#TheGallery: Windermere Steamers

Tara has asked to look at transport today as she was inspired by Planes, trains and automobiles. So time to look through the archives.....

Living up in the Lakes we are very lucky to have wonderful steamers on several of the lakes. This is the MV Tern on Windermere which has been operating since 1891. They were originally operated by British Rail to connect rail passengers to the full length of Windermere as the trains only went to the southern end of the lake at Hatherthwaite and at Windermere.

It is a lovely experience cruising the lake on the boats which come in all shapes and sizes from the Princess of the Lake:

The Miss Cumbrias:

To the largest vessels the MV Swan and MV Teal:

All of the above make for a very a very pleasant way to spend a day whatever the weather!
