Regular readers will know that as a family we tend to get most of our fun outdoors enjoying the wonderful county of Cumbria. However at this time of year we are forced to spend more time in doors. Therefore I have been spending more time playing board games with my children. A big family Christmas also included plenty of games too as there was very little TV watching. Here are some of the games we have been enjoying over the last week:
Mexican Train
This was a new one for us and we were introduced to it on Christmas Eve. Originally we played on a double-9 domino set and then I bought our own double-12 which comes with the special station:
You have to basically create a train using dominoes and be the first one out. All of the family from aged 7 upwards loved this and I am sure it will be played regularly. The pieces marking the train ame from the next game:
Dr Who Monopoly
This was a treat over the summer as they brought out a 50th Anniversary Dr Who edition. Basically the streets are replaced with TV episodes, stations with TARDISes and the pieces represent the different doctors. I like having the Tom Baker scarf:
Nice for a bit of variety though my parents prefer the original version!
Dominoes
Of course having bought the new dominoes for the Mexican train we then had a huge set for playing a proper game:
It takes a lot longer to finish a game with double 12s and you need a much bigger flat surface to fit them all on:
What are your families favourite board games?
We did laugh at these - H particularly liked the armed guard idea. We have a cat lead, but it was never terribly successful (only used it to get cats used to new gardens) and last time we used the cat escaped.
ReplyDeleteWe love Monopoly and have so many versions. Thanks for the heads up on the Dr Who Version - we want to start playing more.
ReplyDeletethink they were thinking "lunch"

ReplyDeleteWow, that little Guinea Pig sure looks like he's enjoying the big wide world (and the cats look like they want to enjoy him!)
ReplyDeletehe wasn't sure and kept hiding!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you're enjoying some board game love...especially with the weather as grim as it had been! I'm a big fan and I keep meaning to review some on LearnerMother, you have reminded me I need to get on to it!
ReplyDeleteplaying monopoly now on my bed!
ReplyDeleteHilarious! I've never heard of walking a guinea pig, but why not. There's someone near us who takes his two ferrets for walks. Love the picture of cuddling her pet - such tenderness.

ReplyDeleteit is until someone cheats and WW3 breaks out!
