Jubilee Fun: Sizergh Castle

We kicked off our Jubilee weekend proper with a family trip to Sizergh Castle. I had bought in plenty of picnic supplies so I flung a lunch together and we jumped in the car. Only the gardens were open as it was a Saturday but there were plenty of activities with a Jubilee theme to do:

Jousting

The children had a hobby horse jousting session trying to catch the hoop on their lances:

Royalty

Her Majesty was there to greet all the visitors wanting to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee:

Owls

A local Owl group was there with a variety of owls including this 9 week old Eagle Owl:

Crafting

There was a section where as a family we could make swords, crowns and shields. Have to admit my sword lashing expertise could do with some improving but my children made lovely shields:

This shows the size of the swords as my son defends the "castle":

Quiz Trail

One thing we love doing at Sizergh are the quiz trails round the gardens. This time there was a royal theme with the children being asked about Disney/fairy tale royals and the grown ups having Royal trivia questions. It takes you all over the gardens:

Picnic

The castle is well set-up for picnics with lots of picnic tables and inviting lawns to sit on. Just a shame it wasn't really picnic weather:

Flowers

I just love the gardens at Sizergh and in each season you get a different set of blooms. These rambling roses were some of my favourites:
