Being a woman means that at some point the menopause will hit with all horror stories of what it entails:
- hot flushes
- sleepless nights
- brain fog
- short temper
- hair thinning
- low mood
- reduced bone strength
As I approach my 50th birthday it is something I need to be aware of and find ways to mitigate the symptoms:
Menopause means that whilst there are no longer the issues of monthly periods, with the problems (and expense) these can bring, it is not an easy time for most women. The lack of quality sleep is something which can impact on all aspects of life. It is certainly something that I am currently struggling with.
I decided to ask the hive mind of my personal Facebook for tips on how to get a better quality of sleep. Here are some of the suggestions:
- using a sleep app
- hydrate properly
- listen to audiobooks or classical music
- use a silk pillowcase
- leave the TV on quietly (just make sure no sudden screams!)
- taking liquid magnesium
- Hormone replacement therapy
- Ocean sounds on Alexa
I do already listen to an audiobook before I sleep and if I wake in the night. Following these recommendations I will try having some sort of ambient noise on all night. I am a light sleeper so this may take a bit of tweaking and trial and error!
Hydration is something I know I need to do better about. So I am making a good effort to drink more plain water. Funnily enough typing that made me go downstairs and get myself some more...
There has been some Amazon shopping and I have ordered the silk pillow cases that were suggested (affiliate links):
I also ordered some liquid magnesium as this is supposed to be good for runners. With marathon training starting over I need to take better care of my body.
If anyone has any more things that have worked for them then please let me know! I am hopefully back working longer hours now schools are going back so I need to get shot of this semi permanent fatigue...
