#CountryKids on the Heights of Abraham

Country Kids from Coombe Mill Family Farm Holidays Cornwall

The Heights of Abraham is something I remember seeing on Blue Peter as a child but don't ever think I went on before Saturday. Three families teamed up together to get it slightly cheaper as between us we had 3 adults and 4 children so it added up to an extended family!

It was a shame that the windows were covered in rain drops as we couldn't fully appreciate the views from the cable car:

Once we got to the top we discovered we had timed it perfectly to go into the main cavern:

We descended a little way down some dark passages:

Once we reached the open caverns you could see where the lead miners had dug out huge spaces:

We were also told how grim life was with boys starting age 7 ferrying ore to the surface and women dying around the age of 30 due to processing lead on the hillsides. It was a nice feeling to get back out into the open air and be glad we didn't have to live like that:

The boys were then very keen to get to the playground to try out the adventure trail:

My daughter was keen on checking out the Fossil Factory:

Surprised at size of an ammonite!

We then all had a quick drink in the cafe before heading to climb the Victoria Prospect tower:

Unfortunately we had to catch the last cable car down the hill and missed the bigger adventure playground! We did catch some of the Matlock Raft Race event:

All in all I would recommend this for a day out if it doesn't blow your budget!
