Usborne Books on Periscope

One of the many strings to my bow is selling Usborne books on an ad-hoc basis. Today whilst I am running an at home sale I've had a go at Periscoping about some of the fabulous books I currently have in stock. As a novice to Periscope I am still learning so any constructive criticism or tips welcome...

I had to abandon ship as my son came hurtling in the door with his mates in tow! So this second video is a lot longer:

If you would like more information on any of these books then please just ask!

Barclaycard Toys

Sponsored post for Barclaycard

  • Barclaycard is rolling out its biggest ad campaign in almost three years, as part of its plans to use Christmas to encourage adoption of its contactless and mobile-payment technology.
The brand will launch its "making Christmas easier" campaign, created by Bartle Bogle Hegarty, on Sunday (11 November), with a 90-second TV ad during ITV1’s The X Factor. It was directed by Chris Palmer through Gorgeous.
The spot shows a father taking a lift to a department-store floor populated by living toys. It ends with the man using his mobile to pay for the "ideal" toy gift. The actor James Corden provides the voice of Mr B the monkey, who acts as the man’s guide through the toy shop.
Viewers can interact by using the Shazam app to tag the ad as it airs. This will allow them to enter a competition to win prizes.

A generation inspired

One of the aims of London 2012 was to inspire a generation. It certainly seems to have rubbed off on to my children. We have had so many sporting activities going on in our street over the duration of the Olympics:

My son wants to be the next Jessica Ennis bless him though he may work out that he needs to do decathlon and not heptahlon when he gets older!

Let's hope their enthusiasm carries on well past September and the end of the Olympics/Paralympics! How inspired are your children?

Staveley Carnival 2012

It was our first Staveley Carnival this weekend and we really enjoyed the spectacle. Its amazing what the community can pull together to produce out of recycled material. This is a story best told in pictures.

My daughter in her flying ant outfit ready for the start:

A praying mantis:

The pre-procession warm up from one of the 4 bands in the carnival parade:

We then all started to parade by sections out of the Recreation ground:

Luckily someone has shared the sound of the carnival by posting on YouTube. You may even spot me and my family:

At the end of the village we looped back and passed the other sections with their own colour schemes:

After the parade there was entertainment, stalls and a fun fair on the recreation ground before the grand finale:

The biggest and best costumes paraded and danced around the arena:

Altogether an amazing spectacle and I can't wait for 2 years time for the next one (just hope that next time all 3 of us are in better health so we can fully appreciate it!)

CAUGHT ON CAMERA - HOFF SHOCK IN NORTH LONDON

Find out what happened when a Barclaycard customer used his PayTag as a contactless way to pay.

WHAT IS A PAYTAG?

It’s the new way to pay using contactless technology. Around a third of the size of a credit card, it’s a sticker you can attach to the back of your mobile phone, allowing you to make contactless payments.

IS IT SAFE?

In a word – yes. If you lose your PayTag or it gets stolen, you’ll be protected against fraudulent activity, in just the same way as with your contactless Barclaycard.

WHERE CAN I USE IT?

PayTag can be used on over 100,000 contactless readers across the UK

From your first morning coffee to your late taxi home, with a new PayTag you can make contactless payments up to £15 (increasing to £20 from 1st June 2012)* in seconds at a huge range of places, wherever you see the contactless symbol.

By the end of 2012 it is predicted that there will be over 150,000 contactless readers across the UK, including many household names such as Waitrose, Boots and Tesco’s. And we’re adding more every week.

Sandwich shops, sports clubs, newsagents and cafés – even convenience stores are now more convenient.

Your new way to pay is waiting to be discovered.

Something for the Weekend

Sponsored Post

This is a slightly different post from normal as I took up a PR offer from Tots 100 from vibrators.co.uk to make a video showing how discreet their parcels are! So this will be my first ever video blog post (so apologies for my film and editing skills...).

So if you are nervous about ordering yourself or someone else something from www.vibrators.co.uk  you can see how discreet it all is. I even had to collect my parcel from the sorting office at the Post Office and so was very relieved that there was nothing on the packaging to indicate the contents. Apparently the company uses a fake name for all credit and debit card transactions so nothing shows up on bank statements or credit card bills either. So you can be assured that only you and the company will know what you have bought.

And this is what was in the parcel... Question is dare I try it ;-)

#FlashbackFriday: Toddler Video

Time to try something different this week as I realised I'd never put any video up on here! I was trawling through my old files and I came across some videos taken when my son hadn't been walking very long. I'm not actually sure of the date but it may have been February 2008 when my son was 16 months old. Apologies for the fact my voice is rather high on this (why do we do that when talking to small children?). It was a time when he was starting to show his character and being mobile was making my life much more interesting...

The rugby shirt he's wearing was the smallest one available! This was taken on Hastings beach and he still loves throwing pebbles... It's great to see video as well as looking at still photographs of the time as it captures more of a feel of the time. Here is an accompanying photograph of his sister on the same day:

Even then she was quite happy to play in a little space of her own and make up her own adventures (though back then it wasn't Dr Who!). This was 7 months before she started at primary school and she was maturing rapidly. Quite strange comparing her then with her brother now who is 3 months away from starting at primary school...
