#RMRChallenge Run Report 2: MIllom parkun 1-1-19

So after completing Barrow parkrun I undertook a 40 minute drive in convoy to Millom for my first visit to the parkrun which has the reputation for being the slowest in the UK! It is located on the playing fields of Millom School and didn't look as muddy as reputation would suggest:

We were warned at the briefing to double knot or trainers tightly and to please use the hose at the end!! It didn't take long to discover that the green was hiding plenty of mud!

With multiple laps you soon get to learn where the boggiest bits are follow the regulars:

I found the course increasingly tough as I went round and my lap times decreased as legs and feet were more and more coated in mud! Eventually I was the only one still going round apart from the tail walker and I did actually lap her.

It was a relief to know that I could finally do the last extra section on the track and be cheered into the finish:

Not surprisingly I was 12 minutes slower than at Barrow but I had achieved the New Year double:

and I had the mud to prove it:

I was quite rightly pleased with myself, if exhausted, and very happy with my highest ever finish position of 57 (even if it was out of 57!):

Once cleaned up I joined the regulars in the cafe and someone kindly paid for me to have a coffee. I would certainly recommend visiting this friendly parkrun just be prepared for mud, lots and lots of mud!

  1. Well done! I have never been a runner but I keep kinda thinking I would like to start, not sure if I could do it or if my knees and back would suffer too much. I feel like this might be the year to try though, if I don't do it this year I never will!

  3. You look like such an active family, I'll be following with interest now as I'm trying to inspire my boys to get off the video games and out more! We'll getting there as I've been getting fitter so more enthusiastic and we also discovered Pokemon Go!

  4. I find its a balance - my son will spend hours on Fortnite but also does plenty of sports and gets outside! My daughter took up running yesterday so I hope that sticks. Pokemon Go great for getting everyone out walking more!
