On our last full day in Ireland we stayed closer to our accommodation and headed back into Kilkenny. It wasn't the best of weather and we soon headed into the newest museum in the city to take cover. The Medieval Mile Museum only recently opened to show case 800 years of the city's history in a restored 13th century church:
Inside there are exhibitions of artefacts and displays about the history of the local area:
My son wasn't as enthralled as his gramps and I were with the old books on display:
He was however very happy with the number of Pokestops! In the grounds of Kilkenny Castle he spent quite some time doing a gym battle, whilst I appreciated the view:
We made the most of our English Heritage membership to get into the castle and explored it from its medieval foundations to the restored Victorian nursery:
The art gallery was the most impressive room:
Exploring castles and hunting Pokemon made for a hungry child (and adults) so we headed off in search of pizza! We somehow ended up at Sullivan's Brewery where they combined pizza and beer in their outdoor tap room:
They even made a special pepperoni only one for my son:
Kilkenny is famous for its beers and pubs as you can see by these buildings along the river:
As we wandered back through the centre of the city we found a reminder of home as Kilkenny has a similar umbrella display to that in Kendal:
It looks so beautiful. the view from the Tarn at the top is so stunning. I am just seeing the first signs of autumn with the bracken turning there, I bet it is really beautiful when the leaves change colour. Well done on the run, uphill is hard especially when the ground is uneven, I'd have had to walk down to save twisting my ankle. Total respect to you all. Well earned cake indeed!
