#CountryKids at Kendal Wool Gathering

Country Kids from Coombe Mill Family Farm Holidays Cornwall

When the rain finally stopped we headed out to K Village to the annual Kendal Wool Gathering. After a glorious September and most of October it was strange having wet and grey clouds:

One of the first things that caught our eyes was this CitizenCairn made at last year's Mintfest to celebrate Kendal's shoe making heritage:

There were plenty of tempting stalls showcasing everything wool related and demonstrations of spinning etc. My daughter was happy to browse these but little brother wanted to get outside to see the livestock. It was great to meet so many different breeds and learn something about them all. The cutest were the world's smallest sheep the Ouessant from Brittany:

There were some more familiar looking breeds as well that were happy to pose for the camera:

This happy and massive Texel ram enjoyed being hand fed and petted:

Of course no Cumbrian wool festival could be without our iconic Herdwicks:

To entertain and educate there were several animal jigsaws to show which products come from each part of the animal. My son spent quite a while doing every one:

Then we could tuck into a freshly BBQ'd lamb or beefburger or a cumberland sausage. My daughter decided it wasn't a good thing to eat a meat product in the same tent as the kinds of animals they were made from! Instead she went off to cuddle a chick:

#CountryKids Get Cycling at K Village

Country Kids from Coombe Mill Family Farm Holidays Cornwall

At the weekend there was a special cycling event at K Village and we went along on Sunday so that the children could try out a load of different bicycles with Get Cycling. My daughter is a keen cyclist but her brother isn't so keen. However there was something to tempt both of them:

One of the more unusual bikes was a miniature penny farthing which both my daughter and I had a try on. It was incredibly strange and I found it hard to turn corners:

My son's favourite was the recumbent bike but I am not forking out £300 for one!

#CountryKids A stroll to K Village #Juneathon day 14

Country Kids from Coombe Mill Family Farm Holidays Cornwall

This morning we all had to go into town for eye tests:

When we finished the weather was nice so we decided to head off down to the river to walk to K Village for the art festival:

It's such a lovely place to stroll and lots of other people were out and about. We had to pause for our regular use of the flood level marker to see how tall they are getting:

Happy 2nd Birthday K Village

Today K Village celebrated 2 years since it reopened with a Mad Hatter's Tea Party. We nipped in to see what was going on and stayed for 1.5 hours! Lots of fun with Lakeland Radio, Bouncy castle, face painting, Wacky Wimbledon and a free party tea for the kids!

The place hasn't been doing well since it's revamp and I wonder what they can do to turn it around?

Saturday Review: Moes Grill, K Village

The only full restaurant at K Village, the management of Moes Grill are obviously trying to attract local residents to supplement the tourists who come in by coach to take advantage of all the discount shops available in the newly opened complex.

Today there was a well publicised event to attract in parents and their children. We were tempted in by offers of all sorts of freebies: food tasting, bouncy castle and face painting. At the end of half term this was very tempting with over stretched purses and bored children. My kids were excited by the thought of "paint face" and bouncy castle. I was interested in the free food for a hungry family! We duly drove up to the car park at 3PM to check out what was on offer.

A minor hiccup occurred as we arrived just as the car park barrier had a funny 5 minutes and initially refused to issue tickets causing a huge tail back. The car park is a work in progress and having only been open a couple of months is obviously experiencing teething problems! When we finally parked up my kids rushed straight upstairs to the face painting area outside the restaurant.
