#CountryKids Catching Mayflies #50Things

Country Kids from Coombe Mill Family Farm Holidays Cornwall

We were lucky to be in the park tonight when the mayflies belatedly made an appearance. Even luckier we had one of the children's 50 things bug kits in the car! So the children tried to humanely catch some mayflies:

Once safely caught in the catcher it was a chance to look at their unusual shape:

They found catching them easy enough to have 2 in the viewing pot:

Then they let them go again as they only live for such a short while.

Aah. We saw lots of mayflies down by the river yesterday evening. I tried to persuade my boys they were fairies but they weren't convinced!! That looks like a very clever catcher. #CountryKids

  5. wow, ok, I'll have to ask 'Guru Gramps' about them, as it's one bug I don't remember from my childhood.

How brilliant for them to be able to catch them to have a close up look. Insects have a fascination for both children and adults alike, yet another tick off the list. Thanks for coming over and sharing with Country Kids.
