Book Review and Giveaway How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers

How to Catch a Star (10th Anniversary edition)How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This special edition of the book was brought out to celebrate 10 years since it was first published. My children have grown up with Oliver Jeffers and have read most of his work so it was a delight to be sent this to review.

"Once there was a boy and the boy loved stars very much" so he sets off to catch one to keep with him as a friend. Jeffers quirky illustrations and simple texts tell the story in such a delightful way. As adults we know that everything he tries is bound to fail but from a child's point of view things might just work.

I read this to my 7 year old and then discovered that my 10 year old had been listening too and her reaction was that it was 'delightful' and she came out of her room to run off with the book!

This is a must for any young child's book shelf and story you will want to share over and over again.

Tuesday Book Review 1: This Moose Belongs to Me

Sponsored Post

Harper Collins sent me a couple of new picture books to review with my children this month. This is the first of them.

Oliver Jeffers - This Moose Belongs to Me

This is Oliver's 10th book and we have already enjoyed several of his previous works. They all have his distinctive art style and quirky story telling. The story this time is about young Wilfred who adopts a moose as a pet. He introduces various pet rules and names his moose Marcel. It turns out however that Marcel may not be his moose after all. A lovely story to share with children.

It is currently out in hardback at £11.99 which is quite pricey for a children's book. It is available from Amazon at much lower prices to make it a great addition to your child's bookshelf.

Monday Harper Collins Book Reviews

Sponsored Post

Time to tell you about the lovely books Harper Collins sent for my 5 year old son to enjoy with me:

1) Up and Down Oliver Jeffers

Once there were two friends..

This is the story of a boy and his best friend who just happens to be a penguin. This book is a sequel to Lost and Found. It seems like nothing can come between them until the penguin's dream of flying completely obsesses him. We were sent the version that comes with an audio CD of the book narrated by Richard E Grant.

The illustrations are beautifully simplistic and the story was really engaging for both my son and myself. Not surprisingly Richard E Grant does a marvellous reading of the story but it was also a pleasure to read it to my son myself.

A great addition to your child's bookshelf.
