#CountryKids at Damson Day

Country Kids from Coombe Mill Family Farm Holidays Cornwall

There has been a celebration of the local damson harvest in the Lyth valley since 1998. This is the first year that all of us have managed to go along. It was a great day out for all of us despite the weather not being as good as yesterday.

It was a day designed with the whole family in mind. My children decided straight away that they were going to have a go at archery:

There was also a mini funfair to entertain them:

For dog lovers there was a dog agility display:

After watching this we went in search of a warming cup of coffee via the food stalls! Many of these had been at the Festival of Food. It was tempting going past local produce such as cakes, chutneys and damson gin as well as meat. The local school had provided the food tent with yummy local hot sausage sandwiches and warming hot drinks.

Revived we headed back out to see some of the local animals and craftsmen on display such as this lovely Jacob's ram:

My daughter was trying to persuade me to have chickens again as she got close up to photograph the ones on show:

We also got a chance to see some local craftsmen in action such as this chap:

These days alpacas are a common sight in Cumbria and there were three at the fair to admire:

Entertainment was provided by amongst others Crook Morris an award winning local Morris group:

We left feeling replete with local produce and having all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this small but great event:

The damson trees are blossoming nicely so let's hope its a bumper crop this year:

Although smaller there are similarities to our annual show here in the Cornwall Showground! These events are great fun for all the family with so many activities to try and delicacies to enjoy! Thanks for linking up and sharing your fun with Country Kids.
