I was lucky to be able to go to school today as a member of staff on a school trip. So lucky to get to go on a school day, but of course not able to enjoy it as much being responsible for children! It took us nearly an hour to get there in a coach due to the usual show congestion so once we got there we were raring to go...
First up we went in the Country Pursuits tent. My colleague beat a strategic retreat leaving me to be volunteered to hold this rather gorgeous owl:
The boys then voted to see the sheep so we headed through the mud to the sheep pens. An amazing variety of sheep breeds and good to get up close to some of them:
Then we wandered past the cattle tent before stopping to watch the carriage driving:

A real mix of a day!
It's been a fun day today. I started with enjoying the early morning light from my kitchen whilst persuading my children that one of them had to feed the guinea pigs:
After a day discussing the teaching of reading and phonics plus how to write Masters level essays it was a nice surprise to find owls at our local Pets at Home:

#CountryKids Meeting Owls
Today we walked into town as it didn't seem to be as wet as forecast:

Suddenly my tween daughter has started being fashion conscious and carefully chose her wardrobe for a trip to the shops!
When we got into town we had a surprise encounter with Oscar:
He and his friends live at the Owl Sanctuary and are regular visitors to Elephant Yard in Kendal where people can learn more about these beautiful creatures. My daughter was keen to have a hold of this little beauty Star:
Of course I wasn't allowed to get away without getting up close to Oscar! I have to say when he flaps his wings its a wee bit scary.. luckily his claws were safely on the far side of a leather glove:
On this occasion my son declined to have a hold. He has been braver in the past though!
