My son had asked Santa for a science kit in his stocking. He was very pleased to find a volcanic eruptions kit in his stocking. It was something he took when we went to visit the grandparents. He enlisted Gramps into helping him build the volcano once we had prepared the table:
They had to mix the plaster carefully to coat the volcano:
Then the mixture was spread over the plastic volcano:
We all had a turn at putting some on until it was ready to left to set:
The volcano needed vinegar to create the explosion. It turned out that the bottle had been around so long that the vinegar needed sieving before it could be used:
Then baking powder was carefully put into the cone of the volcano:
With his safety goggles on my son was then able to inject vinegar into the volcano via the tube to create an eruption:
It does make a rather spectacular lava flow:
With help from Granny (and a paper towel for safety!) my son blew the last of the vinegar through the volcano for more spectacular eruptions:
I look forward to making more explosions again!
