Weird Science Volcano Eruption

My son had asked Santa for a science kit in his stocking. He was very pleased to find a volcanic eruptions kit in his stocking. It was something he took when we went to visit the grandparents. He enlisted Gramps into helping him build the volcano once we had prepared the table:

They had to mix the plaster carefully to coat the volcano:

Then the mixture was spread over the plastic volcano:

We all had a turn at putting some on until it was ready to left to set:

The volcano needed vinegar to create the explosion. It turned out that the bottle had been around so long that the vinegar needed sieving before it could be used:

Then baking powder was carefully put into the cone of the volcano:

With his safety goggles on my son was then able to inject vinegar into the volcano via the tube to create an eruption:

It does make a rather spectacular lava flow:

With help from Granny (and a paper towel for safety!) my son blew the last of the vinegar through the volcano for more spectacular eruptions:

I look forward to making more explosions again!

  1. I love the pics with the snowball on top of the trig point. I can't run to save my life, so have respect for anyone who not only fell runs but does it in the snow, wow! #CountryKids

Love the look of all those old planes, my boys would love it there so I'm making a note of this one. Full marks for joining in the park run the next day and it looks like lovely weather for exploring the sights too. So annoying about the incident just when you wanted to get home, but hopefully it won't stop you making another trip in the future.

Thank you for sharing with me on the first #CountryKids of 2018

Wow shorts in the snow! That makes me shiver just to watch but goodness he does have some staying power. It was great to watch the action from the head camera, I felt I was running with him - without the cold or loss of energy! Beautiful scenery, I hope it warms up for you soon.

  8. Sounds like you had a fun time apart from the hassle with the trains on the way home. Glad your son enjoyed taking part in the Junior Parkrun. RAF Hendon looks like an interesting place to visit - my hubby would love it there. I love walking through London and the walk across Waterloo Bridge is a nice one - there are such lovely views from it :-) #countrykids
