Last Saturday my son and I headed over to Arnside Knott for the final race of his club's junior championship. It was a perfect day for a race in a stunning location. I got to appreciate the view across Morecambe Bay when we walked the course:
Each age group had a different length route so they had a distinctive turning point:
Once we had surveyed the route it was time for the warm up with club coach Lorna:
Then the under 8s and under 10s were counted in and given their final instructions at their joint start:
You can see how competitive they all were by their quick start:
My son came back in 11th place in his category with a strong finish:
He and his training buddies celebrated with a glass of squash:
Then it was the turn of the under 14s and 17s:
Just to prove what a hardy bunch they are here is one of the Helm lads who fell but got up and carried on covered in mud and wearing war wounds:
My son's finishing position gave him 2nd place overall and he was awarded a trophy last night!
