#CountryKids on Orrest Head

Country Kids from Coombe Mill Family Farm Holidays Cornwall

It was glorious sunshine on Sunday so we joined forces with more of the family to take a walk up Orrest Head in Windermere. We took the slightly less well known route which was well signposted:

Orrest Head

It was easy to follow the route and its obviously well used but we mostly had the path to ourselves despite the blue sky:

It's one of the easiest hills to climb in the Lake District but we were glad of our hiking boots as it wasn't all dry:

The day was so warm that we were glad to get into the shade of the woods:

There are obviously plenty of places to walk to judging by the footpath signs:

The spaniel struggled a bit getting over this lovely stone stile through the wall:

There were plenty of little things to stop and see on the way including this gap left for sheep in the stone wall:

When we got to the top it was very busy but I managed to find a way to photograph the view without too many random people people in it:

My son was pleased to be on the top:

You get 360 degree views from the top including the whole of the lake:

It was a lovely day to be out with the family:

I bet this bench once had a lovely view:

There is a useful display to help you workout what you can see:

We took the more commonly used path back down the hill which is well worn and rocky:

It is well maintained and a lot less muddy than the quieter route up the back:

It has more of the lovely signposts:

There was an intriguing stairway to nowhere outside the blacksmith's:

The children were rewarded with an ice cream at the Hungry Goat cafe:

  1. A lovely place to get out in the fresh air for a while! The spine looks very intriguing, a good size so maybe that was once part of a dolphin swimming off the shore. I haven't seen jellyfish on the beach in a while, need to get there more often, I remember poking them with my feet (in shoes) as a child and being fascinated by their colours.
Thanks for linking up to #Whatevertheweather :) x
