Tonka is on the toy brands that I remember from my own childhood with its tough construction toys. So when I was offered a chance to review the new Tonka Town Fire Station for pre-schoolers I said yes even though my son is 6! When it arrived it was very impressive looking in the package:
The set comes with the fire station, a fire car and 2 firemen:
There are so many interactive bits including a fireman's pole that the firemen can actually slide down:
Of course no fire station would be complete without plenty of noise and flashing lights! This one has both a telephone effect and a blues and twos from the "office" on the top:
Here is a little video of my son demonstrating the noises plus how not to drive a fire car out of a fire station:
Good job really that the fire car is as robust as I remember Tonka from my childhood! My son was keen to really test it out by doing things like letting it roll down the inside of the bath... or down the drive to crash into the drain... I am pleased to report that the car survived all these tests. Although we nearly lost a fireman down the drain...
The back of the fire station also has interesting features such as the flames that can be raised up in the tower and re-positionable ladders:
My son (and his big sister!) both love the playset. Its available from most major toy retailers for around £39. This would make a great main present to a child aged 3-5. There is plenty more in the range to augment it including a fire engine. Built to survive whatever a child may throw at it!
