English Schools' Fell Running Championships 2018

English Schools Fell Running Championships 2018

Yesterday my son represented his school in the English Schools' Fell Running Championship at Giggleswick School. The course was similar to the Kendal Winter League Route so we only had to walk up to the other fell to check out the route to the top:

I then set myself up near the stream crossing to video the races as I know it makes the most interesting moments (yes I was hoping for a face plant or two!). My son made sure his leap wasn't a comedy moment with this massive jump:

Here is the video of his Year 7 race as they tackled the stream:

Here are most of the Year 7 medallists:

Once the Year 7s had all safely returned from their race it was the turn of the Year 8 and 9 runners to undertake a slightly longer run which again included the water:

Some magnificent performances leading to some worth medallists:

The third race of the championships was a hugely competitive Year 10 and 11 race:

With plenty of England vest holders it was a great race to watch and the medallists had to work very hard:

The final race was for the sixth formers who had the longest and toughest race. The previous races had made the final descent through the woods pretty slick too:

Here are the year 12 and 13 medallists:

My son finished 49th out of 69 boys and helped his school to 26th out of 31 schools in the competition. Let's hope he can do even better next year!
