This is the last week that the wonderful Jo at Ojo's World is hosting the linky as she hands it back to me for August! She has been an amazing host whilst my life has been a whirlwind so I hope she enjoys the break until September. I am combing this with my second country kids post of the week as it was such a huge reason to be cheerful. We made our second ever visit to Ambleside Sports as we had enjoyed it so much last year (my daughter winning £10 wrestling helped!). So here are our Country Kids at Ambleside Sports reasons to be cheerful:
1) Healthy sibling rivalry
A free competition to see how far you could row in 5 minutes or how many calories you could burn on the cross trainer made both the children happy:
2) Beautiful scenery and inspirational athletes:
My son and I saw the start of the amazing 9 mile Rydal Round from part way up the fell race course. One hundred tough fell runners who were out for a minimum of an hour and half with an awful lot of ascent and descent:
3) Up close to the action
There can't be many places were the cyclists race on grass:
4) Fell racing
This is my son in a race to the finish in the under 12s fell race. As he is only 8 he did well to finish 63rd out of 85th. He really accelerated when he heard the Helm Hill supports screaming his name!
5) Children's races
One of the best things about the day are the free to enter children's races for primary and nursery aged children. This year over 500 children took part! The enthusiasm from all ages and the competitiveness was fabulous to watch. This was my son in one of the 8-9 year old boys' races:
Even big sister got her act together in time for the girls' 10-11 sack race which was hilarious to watch:
6) Zorbing and bouncing
There are of course many ways to persuade parents and grandparents to part with their cash at the show. This is my daughter enjoying a roll in a Zorb:
Little brother got a bargain on the bouncy castle as it was so quiet he was on there for about 30 minutes:
Roll on Grasmere Sports at the end of the month when we get to repeat all the fun!

What an amazing event! The only thing we get is a park run, and that's a good half an hour's drive away xx
ReplyDeleteWe get a repeat on bank holiday with Grasmere Sport
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, it's super important to teach the kids how to stay safe in the water. I thinks it's fab that your two gained some experience swimming in possibly dangerous conditions with trained lifeguards teaching them important water skills. Lovely to see your son happy in the water at the end of the session. Thanks for linking up with me on Country Kids.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fab event, it looks like there was loads to do for all the family. It's great that they had so many friendly races for the kids to take part in and that both of yours wanted to give them a go. Well done to your son on his fell race, a great achievement for someone at the younger end of the races age range. Thanks for linking up with me on Country Kids.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a fabulous day and I love that photo of your son racing, such determination x
ReplyDeleteI think swimming lessons are so important for kids. But usually they are conducted at indoor heated pools (even here in Australia) so it's important they get out in the cold water on occasion otherwise they will panic if they fall in.
ReplyDeleteit is an essential life skill!
ReplyDeleteliving in a part of England surrounded by open water its vital!
