Reasons to be Cheerful Week 18 #R2BC

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

So pleased that Michelle has been nominated for several blogging awards which are well deserved! Pop over and see and maybe even vote ;-) Meanwhile here are my reasons:

1) Operation success

My daughter seems to be recovering well from having tonsils out on Friday. She is enjoying recuperating at the grandparents' house and will be back home for the weekend. Its great seeing her full of beans once again.

2) Time with my big boy

A positive from having my daughter staying away means that I am spending more time just with my son. He is enjoying having mummy to himself. Being on my own its hard for me sometimes to be fair to my children with my time so this is lovely. Also not having to drag big sister around for little brother's activities is heavenly. Nice to be able just to enjoy him:

3) Spring and blue skies

There is nothing quite like blue skies to lift the spirits. On Tuesday I shared some spring photos from this week. When I look out of the kitchen window and see views of blue its a great start to the day:

Its a boost to my running that I am out on a gorgeous day running through the Cumbrian countryside!

Springtime in Cumbria

We have had a beautiful 36 hours up here and there are some lovely signs that spring is in full flow. Here are some photographs from the last 2 days:

Reasons to be Cheerful: Week 16 end of the holidays #R2BC

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart
My life may not be as exciting as Michelle's at the minute but I have lots of reasons to be cheerful this week! Here are the things that are making me smile:

1) Last of the Easter fun

Boy did we pack in the fun this Easter! We rounded off our holidays with a couple more fabulous family days out. The first was the RSPB reserve at Leighton Moss:

And then on Sunday we went to a bloggers' day at Legoland Discovery Centre in Manchester.  Not only did we have fun but I enjoyed meeting bloggers I had met before or who I had only talked to online. Interesting being described as the blogger with the lovely view from her kitchen window!

2) Praise for my children

I had some lovely things said about my children this week. Some from bloggers such as Chaos and Calm who enjoyed my children at Legoland. Also from other people telling me what polite and well brought up children I have! I will have to remember that when they are driving me mental! Also check over on my daughter's blog for her amazing Gollum impressions.

3) Diet and Fitness

After the previous 2 bad weeks there was a loss on the scales this week! I will be writing more about my plans for doing better when I join in with Fitness Fanatics Fridays from tomorrow. Having lots of support on and off line is oh so helpful. Going out for a total of 40 minutes running on Tuesday really put me in a great frame of mind too. Come back tomorrow if you want to know more..

4) Operation House

An impending visit by a surveyor for the landlady forced me into ramping up the house sorting this weekend. This wasn't a happy experience in itself as I'd rather have been doing something fun with the kids but it has left me smiling in the end! The previous moving of furniture from my bedroom to the living room had left my room in even more chaos than normal. Now I can access my bed from both sides again and the room seems twice the size. The landing is also cleared of all the boxes of stuff looking for a home - I did stash these on the bottom bunk so I know what I'm doing this weekend! The front room is a lot clearer too. I did have empty space all the way across the room at one point this week:

5) Spring?

We briefly got teased into thinking it was properly Spring on Monday and Tuesday again! The blossoms were out and we got to spend 2 evenings having picnic teas outside:

Back to school

Well the holidays are over and it was back to school for all of us today. It wasn't the best start to the day with an early rise to finish prepping house for the surveyor. To top it all it was a very soggy school run:

An incredibly full on day back at work after 2 weeks off but at least when I walk out at the end of the day the sky looked a lot more spring like:

The icing on the cake was the wonderful light on the lake at Windermere whilst we waited for my son's swimming lesson:

Feels like it must be bedtime already but the washing up and laundry beckon - the joys of being back at work!

Reasons to be Cheerful: Week 14 #R2BC

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart
This is the last week of Seasider in the City hosting the linky so please pop over to her place! As for me I am tired but cheerful as we reach the end of the first week of the holidays. Here are my reasons:

1) Spring

Its been oh so spring like up here for the last week (apart from the icy wind). We have plenty of blue skies such as that yesterday. The flowers are really coming out now with the daffodils making a real start at opening at last:

The fields around here are full of new lambs:

All this good weather has meant we have had plenty of time for family fun.

2) Family Fun

Its been a busy and fun time with running, scooting and trips to the park. Of course being Easter we had to go on an Easter Egg hunt too. Today we went hiking with the local ramblers group. There will be fuller post tomorrow but this is a taster:

3) Family

My brother and his family have been staying in Kendal for a long weekend and its been lovely to spend time with them. Our boys had great fun playing together and we had lots of fun together:

4) House sorting

The seemingly never ending job of sorting out the house took a huge boost this week. My family came to help replace the ladderax with a dresser which has made my front room seem lighter and bigger:

A lot of hard work but it feels so much better. Now to work out what to do with the rest of the room (and house)!

Reasons to be Cheerful Week 12 Spring? #R2BC

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart
Our linky host is still Seasider in the City whilst Michelle is on her Lent break. So please pop over there to see why she is smiling! Meanwhile her are mine:

1) Spring?

The calendar may say that it is Spring but there are also a few signs around to show that things are changing (despite heavy snow forecast for tomorrow!). We have fields full of lambs and flowers are coming out all over. These are some I found today:

2) Time with the children

The upside of having to leave work to collect a sick child from school is that I got to spend a lot more time than normal with the children! My son and I got to snuggle up watching movies whilst his sister had a snooze and then played on the Wii.

Today before picking up her little brother my daughter and I wandered around the church graveyard - strangely we are both fascinated by graves! It was good to look and see what was on the stones:

Then we got to spend time after school in the park with a couple of other brave families (it was a wee bit chilly). Lovely to be able to chat to some other parents whilst the children got some fresh air play.

3) Proud Mummy

My son passed his next stage of swimming so is going to be on stage 4 from next month! He is a cautious swimmer so we will see how he does in this next class... He also earned his 3rd Beaver badge for experiments:

So glad he is still really enjoying his colony and long may it continue!

His big sister was in the school talent show on Friday. Her act was a poem that she acted out as she told it. She may not have won a prize but the head teacher told me how much he enjoyed her act and the energy she put into it!

4) End in sight..

With another dose of tonsillitis keeping her off school I rang the hospital for news on the operation to whip them out. We now have just over a month to wait hopefully until they are gone and hopefully she will be a lot healthier and happier.

What is making you smile this week?

Back to school

That's it term started in Cumbria today so my children went to school and I went to work at my school. Where did those 2 weeks of Easter holidays go to?

At least it was a gorgeous if chilly first day back:

Reasons to be Cheerful XXXVIII ( #R2BC )

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

It's not been a perfect week by any standards but I've still got reasons to be cheerful:

1) Charity cake sale

Both on the day itself and the morning after at church the homemade cakes were very popular. In total we raised £45 for CLIC Sargent so I'm very happy.

2) Mother's Day

As I posted on Monday my children did their best to make it a lovely day for me on Sunday. From breakfast in bed it was a nice way to spend a relaxed if busy day with my children.

3) My children

My son was his class special person this week. It was really touching to read what his class mates thought about him. Apparently he is a good friend, plays with people nicely and does fantastic drawings!

My daughter gave me the best hug ever last night when I was upset over something. She may only be 8 but at times she is so grown up and I'm sure she will be a fantastic young lady.

4) Spring

Today really feels like Spring is properly here. The sky is blue, the fields are full of lambs and the daffodils are taking over everywhere! I've even got my washing out on the line (this maybe a wee bit optimistic!)

Reasons to be Cheerful XXXVII ( #R2BC )

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

It's a mixed week this week as we are all tired from adjusting to me working but here is what is making me smile:

1) Work

I have really enjoyed being out at work after 2 years self employed at home. Being in a busy school is far from boring and I'm meeting lots of new people - the majority of whom are very friendly! Yes it's tiring whilst I get used to the 4 hours on my feet and fitting in everything else around it but I'm sure that both the children and I will get used to it!

2) Signs of Spring

Looking around everywhere the flowers are starting to appear all over. It always puts a smile on my face to see such signs of new life and lambs in the fields.

3) My son

He is continuing to do well at school and I get great reports of him being good at after school club. He came home this week a certificate for Level 1 of the Computing driving licence - maybe he will follow in my footsteps! He is trying to do his best at swimming to get his next badge even though he hates putting his ears in the water on his back and is scared of being out of his depth.

4) My daughter

She seems to be improving this week as she is finally sleeping properly which has made her less cranky. After not wanting to go on a school trip last week when it came round to it today she was up at 6 to make sure she had made her own packed lunch and was ready for an early departure. She also went to cubs for the first time in weeks and now she knows they go camping she is keen to carry on!

5) Digital Joneses Project

We are so lucky to be one of only 10 families selected to take part in this project. To help us complete tasks over the next year we have been sent a shiny new iPad 2 - just have to fight with my children over who's turn it is!

Reasons to be Cheerful XXXVI ( #R2BC )

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy from the Heart

Another week and another post on what is making me smile!

1) The weather

We have had so much more sunshine its really good for our sense of well being. As a family we have been outside having more fun and enjoying seeing the signs of Spring:

2) Fun with friends

On Sunday afternoon my friend was rehearsing for A Passion for Kendal so I had her 2 boys round to play with my children. We had some fun on bikes and scooters in the street and then had an hour with them going bonkers at Fun or Kids softplay:

Reasons to be Cheerful VIII

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy From the Heart

I haven't had a chance to join in with Michelle's linky for a bit so thought I ought to have a go! So here's what's making me smile at the moment:

1) my prize holiday to Mallorca from Ready For Ten has all been confirmed and we are going to be staying in a very swanky hotel:

2) Spring has definitely arrived in Cumbria. We have daffodils and lambs by the 100s so that everywhere you go its just a celebration of new life. The blue skies and double digit temperatures have really helped too.

3) My son had his parent's evening today and I've been told how wonderful he is with his imagination, creativity and his numbers! Not bad at only 4.

4) My mission to sort out the house really got going this week (must be the Spring weather!). I have got a useable office space again, my bedroom is almost a haven, the landing is no longer a complete dumping ground and I have emptied out the TARDIS aka the understairs cupboard! In the process I have filled 4 bags of charity donations of clothes and books.

5) And last but not least my daughter has been given permission by the vicar to take part in a full immersion baptism this Mothering Sunday. I am so proud of her wanting to take this big step.

Reasons to be Cheerful VI

Reasons to be Cheerful at Mummy From the Heart

Not sure if the signs of Spring and all the new life and blue skies but it's certainly easier to find 3 reasons to be cheerful for Michelle's blog hop! For her post click on the logo, for everyone else check out the blog hop at the end.

1) People are starting to comment more and more about how much slimmer I look! So I not only have the proof of the scales and the looser clothes but out of the mouths of other people. You'll have to wait until tomorrow to see how I did this week ;-)

2) Today I had confirmation of the dates I am going with my kids and mum for our prize 3 night break in Mallorca! We will be flying off in a couple of months time - I am going to gloss over the fact that we have to be at Leeds-Bradford airport in time to catch a 7 AM flight... Can't wait to have my children experience their first ever flight and first trip out of the country (I haven't done either since my honeymoon in 2002!)

3) As I said in my intro it really does feel like Spring is on its way which makes me feel all positive and full of beans! The snow drops and croci are almost being replaced by daffodils as you can see the plants getting ready to flower. Around us in Kendal there are increasing numbers of little lambs enjoying the sunshine. This week it has even been good enough to take the kids to the playground after school. It may not last but it really has given me a boost...
